This is a pair of uncommon pic back buttons that came from the estate of Margo St. James. These buttons were hers. In 1996, she campaigned for a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and promised to install a red light outside the City Hall that would be turned on whenever she was present. These buttons are being sold a s pair and you get both.
COYOTE (Call Off Your Old Tired Ethics) was founded in 1973 as a union and advocacy group for prostitutes and others involved in the sex industry. Founded by Margo St. James, a former prostitute and madam, the group advocates for the decriminalization of prostitution as well as providing education to the public, expert testimony in legal cases and support and services to those involved in sex work. This button, from the mid-70s shortly after COYOTE was founded, features one of the group’s tag lines, “My ass is mine." COYOTE is still active today with chapters in multiple states.

ABOUT DESSIE WOODS:
Dessie Woods’ name was known around the world after she was sentenced to 22 years in prison for killing a white man in Georgia with his own gun when he tried to rape her. Despite large-scale national and international pressure and more than 20 errors by the trial court, the supreme court of Georgia denied Dessie Woods’ appeal and upheld her conviction. In 1981, after serving five years of the original 12, Dessie was released from Hardwick Prison in Georgia.

André de Dienes, was a Hungarian photographer, noted for his work with Marilyn Monroe and his nude photography. As well as Monroe, Dienes also photographed such notable actors as Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Henry Fonda, Shirley Temple, Ingrid Bergman, Ronald Reagan, Jane Russell, Anita Ekberg, and Fred Astaire. In 2002, Taschen published an 848-page two-volume monograph titled Marilyn, noting "his original, inspired style”.

André de Dienes, was a Hungarian photographer, noted for his work with Marilyn Monroe and his nude photography. As well as Monroe, Dienes also photographed such notable actors as Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Henry Fonda, Shirley Temple, Ingrid Bergman, Ronald Reagan, Jane Russell, Anita Ekberg, and Fred Astaire. In 2002, Taschen published an 848-page two-volume monograph titled Marilyn, noting "his original, inspired style”.
